With their current cutting oils they were running at a feed rate of 0.0008 and a spindle speed of 1800 RPM. He then increased the feed rate to 0.0015 and the spindle speed to to 2000. The part still maintained the improved finish and the cycle time for the part was reduced from 8 minutes down to 4.5 minutes, nearly a 50% cycle time reduction! They also noticed thet the parts cleaned off more easily than in the past.  A second customer is machining a 4140 pre-hard material and was getting approximately 3,000 parts between tool changes with their current cutting oil. When they switched to ADDVANCE SWISSCUT 8372 they were able to get 25,000 parts run and they plan to keep running the same tooling on a new part!  These were huge successes and the customers are very happy with the performance of another one of Metalloid’s Bio-Preferred lubricants. METKLEEN 2140, from Metalloid Corporation, is a heavy-duty floor and all-purpose maintenance cleaner that is a favorite with many of our customers. METKLEEN 2140 is highly concentrated and is diluted with water at varying concentrations depending on the application and the soil being removed. Gulf Lubricants / Nu-Tier Brands has received several inquiries regarding the topic of hydraulic oil service life determination by ASTM D 943 and oil service life of Gulf Harmony AW Hydraulic Oils. In response to these questions Gulf Lubricants has issued the following statement. The purpose of running an ASTM D943 Oxidation Stability Test is to measure the resistance of a lubricant to oxidation, especially those lubricants prone to contamination by heat and water, hence a measure of its potential service life. Basically, in the ASTM D943 Oxidation Test, oxygen is bubbled through a sample of oil and water in the presence of a copper-steel catalyst while maintaining the sample temperature at 203°F. The time it takes to increase the Total Acid Number (TAN) of the sample to 2.0 mg KOH/g is indicative of the oil’s relative “oxidation lifetime”. The results are reported in hours.
